The holidays are a time spent with family, and we wouldn't have it any other way, but there are always stresses that come with being the host. If you are having house guests this year and want to make it stress free and organized for both you and your out of town family members, we’ve got some tips for you.
First, decide which room your guests will be staying in and focus on making it as comfortable as possible. Clear any extra clutter that may be stashed away, making the room a blank slate, this includes storing away any non essentials for the time being. The goal here is to make space for your visitors things, for example, a place for them to keep jewelry, shoes, coats and anything else they may have brought along for the trip.
Next, consider investing in inexpensive clothing and luggage racks (especially if you host yearly). This will help you save time before and after their arrival, since you will not need to clear out any drawer space. It will also help your guest stay organized during their visit and not feel as if they are intruding on your space.
We like to “think of the little things” when guests come to stay, this means dusting out all the cobwebs of an unused room, and making sure everything is working and in tip top shape. If there is a television in the room, new batteries are a must, and new light bulbs are great too (just in case).
Bathroom is essentials are very important! Prep the bathroom or even a care basket in the bedroom with toiletries. Also, have extra towels and washcloths readily available, this goes for extra blankets and towels as well.
Finally, if you want to go the extra mile consider keeping fresh flowers or bedside water bottles in the room upon your guests arrival. Another helpful tip, depending on the stay of your guests, is to leave out maps and public transportation schedules if they are planning on exploring the area.
These friendly organizing tips should make a happy and smooth stay for both you and your guests!
